“David - Beloved”
2 Samuel 7:8-15
Dr. Gary Singleton
As we wrap up our sermon series “Legacy - What’s In a Name?” this morning we will look at the greatest king in Israel’s history - King David. But even being king didn’t guarantee that David would leave behind a great legacy. A look at David’s life reminds us that David had some pretty big failures.
So what sets David apart from all the other kings who reigned over Israel? The key to David’s legacy is that he made much of the name of Jesus. Like David, if we want to leave behind a lasting legacy we must learn to be God’s people in the place where God has planted us to accomplish God’s purpose.

“Ruth - Beauty”
Ruth 1-3
Bryan Jones
This morning we are going take a look at the story of Ruth. Like the children’s story about a boy named Alexander, the story of Ruth is filled with terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days. Ruth lost everything. She lost her husband and then left behind her family, and her religious beliefs, and everything that was familiar to start a new life with her mother-in-law in a new land. But God was at work behind the scenes, even in those very bad days.
Through a series of very unlikely “coincidences,” God provided a man named Boaz to be a redeemer for Ruth. Boaz paid her debt, became her husband, and gave her a new life. All of us are Ruth - we owe a debt we cannot pay. And our Redeemer, Jesus, paid that debt to give us new life.

“Joseph - Increasing”
Genesis 50:18-20
Dr. Gary Singleton
This morning we are continuing our sermon series called “Legacy - What’s In a Name?” For the past couple of weeks we have been looking at some Old Testament characters to see how their legacy can shape our story. On this Father’s Day we will look at the story of Joseph, a man who left quite a legacy. After being tossed into a pit by his brothers, sold into slavery in Egypt, and thrown into prison for something he did not do, Joseph still truly believed that God was with him. Dads, what kind of legacy do you want to leave? How would your legacy be different if you truly believed God is with you?

“Leah - Weary”
Genesis 29:31-35
Bryan Jones
This morning we are continuing our sermon series called “Legacy - What’s In a Name?” In this series, we are looking at some Old Testament characters to see how their legacy can shape our story. Last week we learned from Noah that we must learn to find comfort in God’s grace, not in our sin. This morning we will take a look at the story of Leah. Leah’s story is a story of comparison, and deceit, and ultimately of finding peace in God. As we will see, even though followers of Jesus have been set free, many are not living free. The story of Leah shows us how to find inner peace and how to live free.

“Noah - Comforter”
Genesis 6:5-9
Dr. Gary Singleton
This morning we are starting a sermon series called “Legacy - What’s In a Name?” For the next five weeks we are going to look at some Old Testament characters to see how their legacy can shape our story. Today we will start with Noah, whose name means “comfort.” Noah lived in a very uncomfortable time, but he knew where to find comfort.
Noah’s story is the story of a world filled with people who were comfortable in their sin. It’s the story of one man who, by the grace of God, found comfort by walking with God. From Noah we learn to find comfort in God’s grace, not in our sin.

“In Love”
Romans 8:31-39
Dr. Gary Singleton
This morning we are wrapping up our sermon series from Romans 8 with some powerful words from the Apostle Paul. One of the first things a person learns when they start to investigate Christianity is that God loves us. He is for us. Paul tells us in Romans 8:31 “… If God is for us, who can be against us?” Now some days it certainly seems like a lot of things are against us. Terrorists. Disease. Sometimes even our friends and family seem to be against us. So how do we know that when God tells us that He is “for us” it negates anyone and anything that is against us? This morning we will listen as Paul presents us with some pretty convincing evidence.

In Pain to Possibility
Bryan Jones
Romans 8: 26-30
It can be incredibly difficult to look beyond the pain for such possibilities, yet in Romans 8, we are promised that God works good from our pain, and that we are more than conquerors of all forms of pain (v. 35-39).

“In Hope”
Romans 8:18-25
Happy Mother’s Day! Being a mom is one of God’s greatest blessings, and I hope you have plans today to honor that special mom in your life. But being a mom is also one of the hardest jobs around. And it’s not just moms who experience tough days. We all know what it’s like to struggle in this life. This morning as we continue our sermon series “Transformed” from Romans 8, Paul talks about our present suffering in this life and our future hope in Jesus. For anyone who is struggling with finances, or relationships (or just struggling to make it through the day), Paul gives incredible reasons for hope. This morning we learn from Paul that our future hope transforms our present suffering.

“In the Family”
Romans 8:12-17
One of the most compelling things about the gospel is the promise of transformation. Over the past two weeks we have seen that when we become followers of Jesus, we are transformed from “guilty as charged” to “free in Christ.” This transformation takes place through the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us and enables us to do what God tells us to do. This morning as we continue to work our way through Paul’s transforming words in Romans 8, we learn that without Jesus we are adversaries of God. But when we become followers of Jesus we are transformed into heirs of God who will one day receive our inheritance - a life with Jesus in glory.

“In the Spirit”
Romans 8:5-11
This morning we are continuing to work our way through Romans 8 in our sermon series “Transformed.” We learned last week that when we are connected to Jesus we go from “guilty as charged” to “free in Christ.” But God intended for salvation to be the beginning of our journey with Jesus, not the destination. Salvation launches us into a whole new life … a life in which we are transformed. Following Jesus means the Holy Spirit begins to develop the character of Jesus within us. We begin to live differently by the power of the Spirit so that God can send us out to continue the mission that Jesus began. This morning we will see that the Holy Spirit indwells us to transform us.
