John 17:18-26
Video Story Referenced: Mike and Amy Farish
This morning we are wrapping up our sermon series, “Road Trip.” This year we are taking a road trip of faith together. We have set our destination - making disciples by taking personal risks to bring the gospel to every relationship. We have established a route that will take us there - we will join together in worship, in Bible Fellowships, and in an R3 group so that we will go out and live on mission 24/7. But it’s not enough just to choose a destination and lay out a route. All of that is useless if we don’t actually take the trip! So this morning we’re going to get moving on our road trip. And as we head toward our destination, we are going to encounter several crossroads - places where real life happens every day. As we will see, that’s exactly the way Jesus planned our road trip in John 17.

"Route"
John 17:6-19
Dr. Gary Singleton and Chris Havard
This year we’re heading out together on a road trip. But this is not your typical road trip to see Mt. Rushmore. This road trip will take us to a place that is really worth experiencing. Our destination is making disciples by taking personal risks to bring the gospel to every relationship. Now that’s a worthy destination! But in order to get there we need to plan out our route. No one sets off on a road trip and just drives around aimlessly - right? So what is the route we will take to our destination of making disciples by taking risks? Once again we look to Jesus’ high priestly prayer in John 17. As we listen to Jesus, He shows us the way.

"Destination"
John 17:1-5
Dr. Gary Singleton
Starting a new year is kind of like taking a road trip - and 2017 is no different. We are setting off on a year-long journey with a destination in mind. But the road trip we’re taking this year is not just heading west to see the Grand Canyon. Our destination is much more significant. We’re going to take a road trip of faith … a journey of making disciples and seeing God change lives. This could be an incredible year where we accomplish so much for the kingdom of God. But first we have to agree on our destination. So where are we headed? Jesus tells us in John 17 in his “high priestly prayer.”

Jon Burns - 2017 New Year's Day
Sunday Jan 01, 2017
Sunday Jan 01, 2017
Happy New Year! As we turn the page and start a brand new year, we are excited to once again welcome Jon Burns to The Heights. Jon and his family relocated from the U.K. a couple of years ago, and we have been honored to have them as part of The Heights family. Jon was recently appointed President of Greater Europe Mission, a non-denominational mission agency that is committed to seeing God expand His Kingdom through all the peoples of Europe to the world.
This morning Jon will return our focus to our mission here at The Heights: Taking personal risks to bring the gospel to every relationship. In Philippians 2:1-11, we find the answers to two important questions. Why did Jesus come? And why should we share His gospel with others? Jon shares the answers to these questions with us this morning.

"I Am Jesus"
Luke 1:26-38
Dr. Gary Singleton
When Jesus was confronted by the Pharisees about His identity, he claimed "Before Abraham, I AM!" which was a direct claim to His deity, making it clear to the Jews that He was the intended Messiah. As we celebrate the birth story and advent of our Savior, we celebrate the peace with God that Jesus represents!

I Am The Way
Genesis 28:10-22
This Christmas season we are looking at Jesus - the great “I AM.” Jesus told us Himself: “…I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6) Jesus is the only way to the Father,
and all of scripture points to Him. In this sermon series we have looked at how scripture points to Jesus
through the lives of Abraham and Isaac, and today we will look at Jacob. Jacob
had a dream in which he saw a ladder reaching to heaven. On this ladder angels
were ascending and descending between heaven and earth. As we look at Jacob’s
dream we see that the ladder is Jesus. He came to bridge the gap between God
and man, and He engages with everyone to bless anyone who trusts Him.

"I Am The Offering" - Genesis 22:1-14
This Christmas season we are focusing on Jesus - the One who was promised by God. Last week we saw that God promised Abraham an “offspring,” and that offspring is Jesus. This morning we will see that Jesus is the offering ... the sacrifice ... for our sin. In today’s world, the love of God has been sanitized and sentimentalized. We have swallowed the idea that for love to be love it must feel nice. But as we will see this morning, the story of Abraham and Isaac shows us that love doesn’t always feel nice. In fact, it can be demanding and tough at times. God tested Abraham by demanding the sacrifice of his only son, Isaac. What happens when love doesn’t feel nice anymore? The story of Abraham and Isaac teaches us that whatever God’s love demands, it also provides.

"I Am the Promised One" - Genesis 12:1-3
This time of year it’s so easy to get distracted by the busyness of the holiday season. As our “to-do” list grows, we can easily lose focus on what we are celebrating. So this Christmas season we are going to spend four weeks focusing on Jesus. We are going to see that Jesus is the One who was promised by God. He is the One who is the offering for sin. And He is the only Way that leads to heaven. This morning we will start by looking at the word “promised.” Promises are easy to make and hard to keep. Most of us have experienced a broken promise, and it’s easy to become promise weary. But from ancient times God made a promise through Abraham that He has already kept. Jesus is the Promised One - but we have to believe in the One who was promised.

"Selfish Desires" - Galatians 2:15-21
Over the past couple of weeks we have been studying Galatians 2, and we have seen that God calls us to be unyielding in our mission to bring the gospel to every relationship. Satan wants to shut down our mission, so he uses false teachers to criticize and confuse us, and bad theology to distort our message. This morning we learn that there is one critical point on which we must be absolutely unyielding, and it is this: Justification comes by faith in Christ alone. Being a good person doesn’t make us right with God. Doing church work doesn’t make us right with God. To be justified ... to be made right with God ... we need a Savior, and that Savior is Jesus.

"Bad Theology" - Galatians 2:11-14
Our mission here at The Heights is to be disciple-makers who take personal risks to bring the gospel to every relationship. If you are living on mission and taking risks ... then you can be sure that you are going to face opposition. Satan doesn’t want you to bring the gospel to anyone, so you can expect him to do everything in his power to silence you. We are studying Galatians 2, and Paul tells us that we are to be unyielding in our mission. Last week we learned that Satan uses false teachers to criticize and confuse us, and get us off mission. This week we will take a look at how Satan uses bad theology to distort our message. Good theology compels you to live on mission, but bad theology will shut down a life on mission every time.
